Canadian artist Ryan Dsouza returns with “Raggedy Ann,” a soulful reggae-blues fusion single that explores themes of hardship, dignity, resilience, and survival through powerful storytelling and emotionally driven musicianship.

navigating life on the streets — not as someone defeated by circumstance, but as someone facing the world on her own terms. Inspired by the image
of a “Raggedy Ann” type character, the song challenges assumptions about struggle and identity while highlighting quiet strength beneath outward
appearances.
The track combines the laid-back rhythmic foundation of roots reggae with expressive blues phrasing with emotionally charged lead guitar riffs that
act as a secondary voice throughout the narrative. Set in G minor at 78 BPM, the song creates a cinematic atmosphere where groove and storytelling
exist side by side.
One of the song’s standout lyrical references — “Mad dog ‘e wait at de corna” — carries deeper meaning tied to MD 20/20 (“Mad Dog”), a low-cost
fortified wine associated with hardship and street survival. Alongside the stylized dialect used throughout the lyrics, these details immerse listeners
directly into the character’s world and emotional reality.
Vocally, Ryan has intentionally adapted his phrasing, tone, and subtle vocal accent to align with the lyrical style and reggae roots feel of the song,
allowing the performance to authentically reflect the character and environment portrayed in the lyrics.
“‘Raggedy Ann’ is really about perspective,” says Ryan. “It’s about seeing humanity and dignity in someone society may overlook. Musically, I wanted
the song to feel soulful and cinematic all at once.”
